"Up and Away", the first five
IRIDIUM Satellites were successfully launched, May 5th
1997.
"The launch of the first IRIDIUM satellites represents another step in the dawning of a new age of communications. Motorola is proud to help IRIDIUM bring personal global communications to the world", said Motorola Chief Executive Officer Christopher Galvin. The five communication satellites were launched from the Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, heralding the start of Iridium's $3.4 billion project to launch a network of 66 low-orbit satellites. The Iridium personal communications network will be capable of delivering fax, voice,data and paging services to almost any place on earth, giving a potential global capability to mobile phones. SBG are proud to be a partner in this
venture. |

| A 30 floor office block, reaching 260 metres into the sky, will
dominiated the development, which will include a new 5 star 224 bed
Al-Khozama Hotel and a 100 unit appartment building, conference
facilities and a shopping mall. There will be underground parking
for 1600 vehicles.
At its peak some 4500 will be employed on the site. |
