* The newly appointed
president of Arianespace said recently that the company's launch
schedule will be on schedule for the rest of the year. "The Ariane 5
will go off September 15th and there will be two more launches the rest
of the year," said Leo Mondale in a recent interview.
Minnesota-born Mondale is
the nephew of former Vice President Walter Mondale.
He came on board to manage the French launch
company's U.S. sales, marketing and customer relations last month.

Wen Ho Lee is charged with removing classified material from a secure
area. Despite Lee's guilty plea to a widely public and much touted
case, a former Clinton appointee connected to Al Gore has admitted to
far worse and walked -- without being charged or even questioned.
In 1996, the former Commerce employee walked into a secure area, put
classified files in a box, and then walked out the door. That former
employee was Ira Sockowitz, then special general counsel at Commerce.
Without authorization, he took 136 files, over 2,000 pages of highly
classified materials, and simply walked away.
The Sockowitz files include secret reports on cryptography from the
NSA, a secret report on Russia from the CIA, secret cables from France,
secret documents on U.S.-Russian space launches, even materials on U.S.
efforts to purchase weapon's grade uranium from Russia
snip
The bulk of the Sockowitz files contain information on a now-defunct
U.S.-Chinese space venture called Iridium, a competitor of the Loral
Globalstar project. Iridium was working with an international team of
leading aerospace and electronic leaders in Russia and Red China to
construct a worldwide satellite telecommunications network. In 1994,
Loral and Schwartz were behind Iridium with his Globalstar project.
Motorola's Iridium included Russia's Ministry of Atomics, Khrunichev
Space Research and Production Space Center in Balkonur, and the China
Great Wall Industry Group, a company previously sanctioned for selling
M-11 nuclear tipped missiles to Pakistan.
Created by Motorola in
1987, Iridium has direct ties to Ron Brown and the Democratic Party.
Leo Mondale, a nephew of the former vice president, was
vice president of strategic planning for Iridium. Mondale and Motorola
executive Edward Staino hired four of Brown's former employees to run
Iridium. All of them were former DNC fund-raisers, and all of them
newly armed with high-level security clearances.
Motorola also hired former White House National Security Council member
Dr. Richard Barth. Dr. Barth, according to now CIA Director George
Tenet, was very important to the Clinton-Gore satellite export policy.
Tenet served in the 1993 White House as a national security advisor to
Clinton and Gore.

Iridium LLC, the global satellite telephone company that filed for
bankruptcy protection last month,
said Wednesday it had hired a team of specialists to help it
restructure.
Iridium, which offers telephone service anywhere in the world via a
system of 66 low-earth orbiting satellites,
also said Leo Mondale had resigned as chief financial
officer, a post he had held since April.
"I accepted the CFO position to support Iridium's efforts to bring
about an out-of-court restructuring," Mondale said in a statement.
"Since this is no longer possible, it is appropriate for me to step
down and let the new management team, with reorganization experience,
take over."
Iridium, which is 18 percent owned by technology group Motorola, said
it had hired Alvarez & Marsal, a New York-based firm that
specializes in returning ailing companies to financial health. David
Gibson, a managing director for Alvarez & Marsal, was named
interim CFO, while another managing director, Joseph Bondi, was named
chief restructuring officer, Iridium said.
Six months after launching its satellite phone service, Iridium LLC
(IRID) is almost out of cash. After losing nearly US$1 billion in two
disastrous quarters, the engineering marvel is in danger of becoming
the Ford Edsel of the sky.
Consider these sobering words from Iridium's
own annual report: "Iridium has borrowed approximately $3.02 billion as
of March 1, 1999, and expects to borrow a substantial amount of
additional funds. Iridium is not currently generating any meaningful
revenues to fund its operations or repay its indebtedness."
To its credit, Iridium has found a few more buyers. On Monday, Iridium
said that it had sold $52 million worth of phones and calling services
to the US General Services Administration. The Defense Department's
Information Systems Agency also recently signed on for $219 million of
Iridium services.

Inmarsat
Inmarsat provides telephony and data services to users world-wide, via
special terminals. An Inmarsat terminal contacts the satellite and
communicates to a ground station through the satellite. It provides
reliable communications services to a range of governments, aid
agencies, media outlets and businesses needing to communicate in remote
regions or where there is no reliable terrestrial network.
Aside from its commercial services, Inmarsat provides global distress
and safety services (GMDSS) to ships and aircraft at no charge, as a
public service.
Services include traditional voice calls, low-level data tracking
systems, and high-speed data services as well as distress and safety
services. The most recent of these provides GPRS-type services at up to
492 kbit/s via the BGAN IP satellite modem the size of a notebook
computer. Other services provide mobile ISDN services used by the media
for live reporting on world events via videophone.
Inmarsat's most recent series of satellites were launched in June and
November 2005. These were the largest commercial telecommunications
satellites ever launched. Each satellite is equipped with a global
beam, 19 regional spot beams, and 228 narrow spot beams.

Leo Mondale has been named president of Arianespace,
Inc., bringing his extensive space industry,
telecommunications and legal experience to Arianespace's U.S.
subsidiary.
Mondale's
role as president, effective July 1, is to manage the sales, marketing,
and customer/industry relations in the U.S. for Arianespace,
a leading global provider of commercial satellite launch services.
He succeeds Doug Heydon, who headed the office for the past 16 years.
``I welcome Leo as my successor and look forward to working with him in
my new role as Chairman of Arianespace, Inc.
I
will maintain my focus on ensuring that Arianespace continues to enjoy
open access to the U.S. commercial satellite market,'' Heydon said.
``Arianespace is well placed to maintain its strong position in the
U.S. commercial satellite launch market --
a position that will be further strengthened with the ramp-up of Ariane
5 launches,

Star One C1 on the November 9 launch will be the United Kingdom's
Skynet 5B secure military communications satellite. Skynet 5B was
delivered to the Spaceport in September, and is continuing the
pre-launch preparation process. It will be the second Skynet 5-series
spacecraft launched by Arianespace in 2007, following the orbiting of
Skynet 5A on an Ariane 5 mission in March.
