During the research i noticed a signature on SEC paperwork for Iridium satellite system

The Iridium satellite constellation is a system of 66 active communication satellites with spares in orbit and on the ground. It allows worldwide voice and data communications using handheld satellite phones. The Iridium network is unique in that it covers the whole earth, including poles, oceans and airways.

Below i look at some of the people connected with the Iridium system.
My comments are in GREEN

It might also be a good idea to keep in mind that
WND (World Net Daily) is a right wing republican outfit,
as is Judicial Watch and the website

all 3 seem to be after the Clintons !

 Iridium satellite system.
Iridium was supposed to offer communications to anyone anywhere
even remote areas, because it was a satellite system and not land towers.

Its important to note here that Hasan M. Binladin is part of the Saudi Bin Laden Group.

Do bin Ladens benefit financially from attack?
Iridium phones suddenly in high demand for rescue efforts
Posted: September 17, 2001

As late as three years ago, Hasan bin Laden served as a director of the Iridium Middle East Corp. subsidiary, reported the New York Daily News. The Saudi bin Laden Group, the family's investment arm, has also reportedly invested in the global phone link firm.

A spokesman for the company denied, at that time, that the bin Laden Group and Hasan bin Laden had any financial or professional connection with Osama bin Laden, who even then was wanted on terrorism charges. The bin Laden family has claimed to have severed all ties with Osama after his role in masterminding the U.S. Embassy bombings in East Africa in 1998.

"Our traffic went up significantly (after last Tuesday) and probably will continue that way until the networks are restored," D. D'Ambrosio, executive vice president for business development at Iridium Satellite LLC in Leesburg, Va., told the Arizona Republic.

The company, which was formed last year to buy the Arizona-developed system out of bankruptcy, maintains one of its three global gateways in Tempe, and it relies on Motorola Inc.'s Scottsdale-based Integrated Information Systems Group to service its government users

Iridium Satellite LLC, a privately held company, is the successor to the bankrupt, delisted Iridium LLC. Iridium Satellite won a two-year contract in December to continue Defense Department service and launched commercial service in April. The company has distributed about 20,000 units so far, according to officials of the company.

Blair Buys New Home Next to Bin Laden Property in Arab Area in London
Oct 21, 2004
Many of the Arabs that live in the area talk about the 50-year-old Hasan Bin Laden, who is only a year younger than his brother Osama.
He lives with his British wife and childrenin an apartment not far from Blair's new home.
In summer he and his family from Saudi Arabia stay in the apartment.

One of Blair's new neighbors, who sells newspapers and cigarettes, said,
"I remember him very will; he was always smiling; there is a great difference between him and his brother"

A British Lebanese who owns a commercial place only 40 feet away from Blair's new home, said Hasan can see Blair's new home through his window.
He said he was a friend of Hasan and sometimes the two of them would go out to restaurants.

Shortly after the World Trade Towers were struck, Verizon lost all service from their West Street Central switching office. Most carriers took some time to restore even basic level of service. In the midst of all of this, my concern was for my co-workers and friends. My cell phone was essentially useless, as was our landline home line. I walked out to a clear area on our street and turned on my Iridium handset. It quickly responded with "Registered" and the signal came up. I called the main number and one of my co-workers answered the call, the call went through! It was invalueable to know they were well and safe, and important to know what the logistics for business were going to be. It meant more than I can say to have that call go through at that moment. I carry my Iridium handset regardless of how short a trip may be. Your service is truly unique and an indispensable communications tool.

P.S. I am an Amateur Radio operator with access to all bands and modes of operation, but that does not help me when the ones I am trying to reach do not have a license. My Iridium handset will now have a place of honor in my "SCRAM" kit I keep for response to emergency calls. Such as the shift I took at the site of the WTC attack.

IRIDIUM
8/28/98 DAWN (Pakistan) Masood Haider "The brother of Osama bin Laden is a director of a US telecom giant, Irridium LLC, according to reports. Although the Clinton administration has made Osama the world's most wanted man, the rest of the family does millions of dollars in business with the US, reports say. Sheikh Hasan bin Laden, one of Osama's many brothers in a Saudi family of immense wealth and far- flung enterprises, is listed by the Securities and Exchange Commission as a director of Iridium LLC, the New York newspaper Daily News said. Irridium, which plans to put the first global network of cell phones and pagers into operation next month, has launched satellites four times aboard China's Long March rockets. The launches by Irridium, Hughes Electronics and Loral Space and Communications triggered a furore in Congress this summer amid allegations that China picked up missile targeting know-how from its arrangements with the US firms. Irridium confirmed that Hasan bin Laden is a director of the Irridium Middle East Corp subsidiary and that the Saudi bin Laden Group, the family's investment arm, has put money into the global phone link firm.."

Mr. Mondale, nephew of the former vice president, was the first employee of Iridium and is the Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning for Iridium LLC. Before joining Motorola, he was a Vice President at Fairchild Space and Defense Corporation where he was responsible for the international and commercial activities of Fairchild Space from 1989 to 1990. Prior to joining Fairchild, Mr. Mondale was Legal Counsel to the then Space Division of Matra, S.A. The America list of companies includes Lockheed Martin Corp., Missiles and Space Division, in California; Sprint; Hewlett Packard; McDonnell Douglas Aerospace of California; Raytheon of Massachusetts; and ARINC of Maryland which does contract work of the CIA.

Then there are some shaky policy decisions at Commerce that, for example, allowed another Iridium investor; Russia's ministry of Atomics, to obtain supercomputers capable of designing nuclear weapons. In fact, a Russian organized crime figure, Clinton White House guest Grigor Loutchansky, is a player in Iridium's telecommunication plan, according to a congressional investigator. Loutchansky, suspected of trafficking in nuclear materials, could have been interested in the Sockowitz folder called "Uranium from Russia," which may have contained details on US efforts to purchase left over weapons-grade uranium from Russia and revealed where 1,000 tons of such uranium may be stored.

snip
Another strange coincidence occurred when the US Air Force, in an unprecedented move, allowed Iridium satellites to be launched into space after serious sabotage resulted in three explosions of rockets of the type used to launch the Iridium satellites. When a Russian and Chinese launch exploded last year, they were also vehicles of a kind used to launch Iridium satellites. Then earlier this year, another explosion at Cape Canaveral caused $50 million in damage and destroyed a $45 million dollar military navigation satellite. Again, the rocket was the type used to launch Iridium satellites. But the Air Force still granted approval to McDonnell Douglas to launch two more rockets with Iridium satellites before completing its investigation, despite an angry insurance industry that said it wouldn't insure further rocket shots until the investigation is complete. The approved shots were to launch Iridium satellites.

Iridium's competitors would like to have that type of pull, says Virginia based SOFTWAR President CHarles Smith, who has been collecting data on the government's plan to nationalize encryption. He also says possession of the Sockowitz file could open the door for competitors such as Israel Aircraft Industry, or IAI. It would have been fascinating to IAI to at least know what the competition is charging and who their customers are," Smith says.

What Is Iridium?

Originally the company was Iridium, Inc., formed in June 1991 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Motorola. In mid 1993, positions were sold to US and foreign investors on a private placement basis. In July 1996 Iridium LLC (limited liability corporation) was formed and Iridium, Inc. was merged into the LLC. The partners in Iridium LLC are big companies you have heard something about before; Motorola, Lockheed-Martin, Loral, Sprint, Raytheon, Hughes and others. These partner companies apparently bought their stock positions in this enterprise for the stock par value of $0.01 per share. Motorola appears to be the largest participant at 18-25% ownership. The intent of Iridium LLC was to put a huge array of polar satellites in low earth orbits.

Hopefully, you did not own the publicly traded stock in Iridium World Communications, Ltd. - at least not during the crash period. Why, then, should you be at all concerned with this. Consider the following:

         1. The consortium successfully deployed the satellite constellations. By the way, state-of-the-art satellites capable of processing billions of bytes per second (yes, billions with a "B").
         2. A significant chunk of the bill was paid by unsuspecting stock market investors.

         3. The rocket guidance technology was illegally delivered to China with help from our White House. Remember when Loral, and its CEO Bernard Schwartz, first came under fire for this delivery, you were told that it was simply to be used for a little light weight telephone communications system so, dont get excited. China used the technology along with the MIRV capabilities when they launched satellites for Iridium. Russia launched some also. The same guidance technology can now be used by both to deliver rockets to the USA and they can deliver multiple warheads using the MIRV technology!
         4. There is no more need to worry about manufacturing expensive telephones that nobody will buy, anyway, because Iridium World Communications is in bankruptcy.
         5. Iridium LLC is alive and well and the partners own the satellite constellation.
         6. Now the worst part, according to Michael Bunker Those satellites are, and always have been, spy satellites. They are being used to transmit a significantly high portion of all telephone, e-mail, fax, pager, and internet communications world wide. Furthermore, the plan is for full involvement in all of these communication transmissions. Huge computer banks are busy, around the globe on a 24/7 basis, screening all transmitted communications. Understand that your use of hit list keywords or key phrases in your communication will trigger the computer to isolate your communication for further scrutiny by the "authorities".

Iridium is simply another very clever step, by the global elitists, toward taking control of peoples lives around the world remember, Big Brother and his Telescreen. You see, something as innocuous as a wireless telephone system venture can take its toll on your privacy,
 freedom, and personal security.

Syncom Funds
D. Colussy: Rob. We, like any private equity fund, are not going to disclose all of our investors, other than to say we are very strongly capitalized. Syncom, which Herb Wilkins represents, has kind of a special interest in this project. He and I joined up together originally, going back to our first interest in this project, so that's why I did introduce the Syncom Funds. But beyond that, we will not be getting into who our private equity investors are. What was the second part of your question?

R. Kaiser: About whether this deal would have been completed without the support from the Defense Department?
D. Colussy: We're actually going to start service with the DOD tomorrow. They have been using the system throughout the bankruptcy. As you may know, they have their own gateway that they built and invested in, located out in Hawaii, which is dedicated strictly for DOD use. We now have the security module fully developed and tested and ready to go as well, so DOD will have a system that's up and running today, because of course the satellites are up there and they're functioning.

Our commercial service will start towards the end of the first quarter, because we do have to restart our North American gateway and we want to be very sure that everything is working properly before we resume commercial service. But DOD will begin, as I said, either today or tomorrow.
R. Kaiser: And do you expect to launch replacement satellites?

D. Colussy: Yes we do.

snip...
So we're obviously totally open on that, but believe that there is a good possibility that we could have a next follow-on generation, especially with the support of the Department of Defense. Because as you read any of their releases, they are very serious, and I think this is not a function of any administration, this has been going on for quite a while, where DOD is determined to get into commercial relationships with communication systems, so they do not have to put up these huge capital costs. It's stated in their own release when they announced our contract, that it was going to cost them $9 billion in several years to replace the current UHF system, whereas they can come in and utilize Iridium of course at a fraction of that. Granted, Iridium doesn't meet the full needs, it doesn't meet every single requirement, but it meets enough needs so that they can think totally differently about where they go from here.

Now in terms of DOD, one of the first stops I made when I got interested in this project, was I visited there, because obviously they would be a potential user of the system and they had already invested a couple hundred million dollars in the gateway and the development of the secure module so there was a big cost there already. I found the actual same reaction, a very positive sense of the need for this system throughout the different services, for different reasons and different types of things. But I went away from a sense that DOD would be very interested in the service. At that point, there was no hint of this being thought of as deferring the investment in the UHF or anything like that. This was just the people that wanted the system because it was useful for their missions, whether it was in an airplane.

You know, there has been an Iridium system installed in an F16 that's still flying. The pilot of that F16 can, he doesn't have a handset, it's built into his control communications system. That plane has been tested at 1.6 mock [sic. mach], upside down and backwards, and it works. He presses one button and he can communicate with his space, he can receive a small amount of data that he needs. Of course that's just one tiny example of all the different uses on ships and on the ground and in the air.

So without getting overboard on it, let me say that we found very strong support from the troops, in the Pentagon they call them warriors, the people that actually want and need the system in the field. I think that emanated up to the top by the time we got in there and made a specific proposal.

B. Gans: Do you have a target for your government market, for the U.S. government market?

D. Colussy: Well we're starting out with $3 million a month; that's been publicized, so I can say that. That's unlimited use for up to 20,000 subscribers. When they get over 20,000, then they'll be added revenue for us.
http://personal.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/L.Wood/constellations/iridium/conference-call-Dec-2000.html

==========

So initially, the info-war focused only on the battlefield. Time  magazine caught a glimpse of the U.S. capability in its reporting on the Pentagons successes in "taking down the Serbian air defenses." The Pentagon cited "attacks, jamming and corrupting data, which the allies have fed into Yugoslav computers through microwave transmissions." [Time, April 26, 1999]
The first widely noted application of classified techno-warfare occurred on May 2. A soft bomb detonated over a Yugoslav electrical plant, spraying carbon filaments over the power lines and causing short-circuits that blacked out most of the country for seven hours.

We have certain weapons we don't talk about, said Maj. Gen. Charles Wald. In line with info-war strategies, he noted that an electrical outage confuses command and control, it disconnects and confuses computers.

9/11 + communications failures

Iridium has announced that the debut of full commercial services of their global telecommunications system has been delayed until November 1, 1998.

DENNIS HASTERT
"However, the secure phone was not working properly, and several attempts at calling Cheney were unsuccessful. Hastert has recalled: "On that dreadful day I couldn't make the thing work. No matter what I did, I couldn't connect with the vice president."

i find this almost impossible.
one would think there would be a redundant system in case of such an emergency,
if i were tasked to make this line work, i would have done that.

For so many lines to be down, it sounds like a problem with the switch.

We saw something very similar with Hurricane Katrina,
but at least there the huge lines carrying tons of info (T-3 lines)
were damaged, down, or were under water.

As far as the cell system, i can understand that being overwhelmed.
if you get too many calls trying to go through at the same time,
the systems basically shuts down, its not meant to handle that.
Of course there are people using different providers like ATT, Sprint, Verizon etc...

Powell
During his seven-hour flight back to Washington, Powell found that he couldn't talk to anybody
because his communications were connected to the system in the U.S., which was swamped."

This i dont understand.
I am guessing he would be using the Air-phone system like on any plane.
Theres absolutely no reason that should have been shut down
Unless perhaps everyone on a plane that day was making calls for 7 hours straight.
I guess this is possible with word of mouth spreading and people thinking they are in danger etc...
It could have swamped the Airphone system, but should not have made a difference in the landline system.

The Airphone system connects to the landline (the ones we all use)
and that connection is made in Chicago if i remember right
I seriously doubt that connections across the whole US would have been disrupted.

Heres a quick look at how landlines work.
When a person (A) calls another person (B),
the call routes through many different switches
(im talking about calls across state lines)
If one switch goes down, the call gets routed through a different one.
In fact, if *A* calls *B* 5 different times, its very likely
that none of those calls will get routed exactly the same way.
Its an  extremely robust redundant system.

BUSH
"The line to the White House shelter conference room--and the vice president--kept cutting off."

In cellular, i have personally setup special cell sites for emergencies,
and for areas of the city that take high traffic.
Sometimes we do this for a company (or special event)
where they just cant loose communications.

I would think the Pentagon would have had an extra cell site (or 2) just in case of emergencies.
The only other possibility is that the local switches in DC were swamped.
Now this doesnt sound too far fetched, but i would also expect that the Pentagon would have made
plans for this for national emergencies.

the Pentagon's Naval Annex had a great big Stromberg-Carlson digital switch
http://www.sundance-communications.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=19;t=000495;p=1
The federal government's "Centrex" arrangement has always included completely private
(no public lines) and redundant CO switches for obvious reasons,
The plan was "97-98" was to upgrade the 5E in the Pentagon to go solely ISDN BRI.
The DC Gov owes Vz about $4 million, and they are trying to be there own telephone company.

A 5E is a BIG switch, ive worked on them.
So it seems that there should have been plenty of capacity.
A switch has its own T1's (and T3s) going in and out.
This is a TON of data !
The idea that the Pentagon had its own switch means that all of the calls going in and out
do not depend on the local switch, the swithc has its own high capacity "pipes"

"The president ended up borrowing a cell phone, but reportedly even that did not work."

This makes no sense at all.
He was in Florida.
Since there were no attaks in Fla i see no reason for this.
The idea that he was calling DC has nothing to do with it,
unless it was the DC side that was overwhelmed.

"'Ma'am, I'm sorry, we can't reach Air Force One.'"

Right !#@!
One would think that AF1 would have several means of communications.
I would think it would have an airphone system, as well as a government system

I dont know if there is a system all over the US built specifically for AF-1
or even if theres one built specifically for the NSA, but im pretty sure there IS one for the CIA
I wold imagine that they can use that system,
and there absolutely no reason that one would be down
Also, probably the primary way to talk would have been the Irridium satellite system.
(see below)

The U.S. Defense Department has signed a $72 million, two-year deal to use Iridium Satellite's space-based phone network
to provide secure voice communications for the Navy and other government users.
Published: December 7, 2000,
http://www.news.com/2100-1033-249582.html
Now the Pentagon hopes to enhance the Iridium network to provide secure voice connections around the globe.
Iridium's 66-satellite network, the world's first satellite phone system, was built at a cost of more than $5 billion. But the service, intended for global business travelers and high-end consumers, failed to attract enough customers.
The Defense Department said the Iridium system may be extended in the future for use by other federal agencies and some allied governments.

Iridium 38 (25043, 1997-069E) was launched on 1997 September 11. It entered operational use,
but evidently lost its ability to maintain its position in the constellation after almost 6 years in service.
www.rod.sladen.org.uk/iridfail.htm

Iridium Satellite will begin service for the U.S. government immediately. By the end of the first quarter of 2001,
we will launch the commercial satellite communication services to industrial and other government customers.

In October 2002, Charles McGee, executive director of the New Hampshire
Republican Party, was mailed a Democratic flier that offered Election Day
rides to the polls. The circular listed telephone numbers of party offices
 in five cities and towns.

"I paused and thought to myself, I might find out -- I might think of an
idea of disrupting those operations," McGee later testified. A Marine Corps
veteran, McGee approached the situation like a combat operation:
"Eventually the idea coalesced into disrupting their phone lines . . .
[it's] military common sense that if you can't communicate, you can't plan
 and organize."

 Subject: Communications sabotaged?

 Good article,

what's your take on this, Brad, is the explanation that simply too many
calls were made a sufficient reason that so many crucial people couldn't
do phone calls or is there reasons to believe more sinister motives at
 work?
