From 911Encyclopedia:

On March 2002, actor Alec Baldwin "raised eyebrows" at the '21' Club" in Florida, when he compared the Sept. 11 attacks to President Bush's victory, referring to the election results as "the other catastrophic event that happened in this country." Baldwin said, that he believed that the White House and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld hope the war in Afghanistan continues indefinitely because of the political benefits. Baldwin made news with this statement and was therefore invited at the only remaining US-Gov criticising TV show of Bill Maher ("Politically Incorrect"), which was later cancelled in Summer 2002.
